The Stephenville Arts & Culture Centre was created from what was The Service Club of The Ernest Harmon Air Force Base. The ballroom floor area was raked to accommodate 447 soft seats and make a wonderful, acoustic auditorium. A tower was added to accommodate a stage and rigging, and the front entrance and administration area were also added to the original building. Other areas of the original building were redesigned to offer an Art Gallery, meeting room space, a lounge, and a curator/workshop area. In 1997, the curator/workshop area was renovated to become a 150 seat black box theatre, known as Stage II. The Provincial High School Drama Festival was presented in April 1975; however, The Munich Boys Choir was the first official performance on May 1, 1975. The building, itself, was officially opened in August 1975, by Premier Frank Moores, with the first full season starting in September 1975. Various local, provincial, national and international performances have since graced out stages, as well as, Visual Art displays and exhibits in our Gallery.
