For Immediate Release November 1, 2012 A Happy Reunion for Joel Plaskett Emergency and their NL Fans St. John’s – Hailed as one of Canada’s most enduring, innovative and charismatic songwriters/performers, Joel Plaskett and his band Emergency (Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell) return to NL and tour provincial Arts and Culture Centres (ACCs) and partnering venues from November 2- 13 in support of their latest album Scrappy Happiness. The Halifax rocker and Juno Award winner has made many trips to the province over the years, but has never embarked on a provincial tour and is eagerly anticipating its start. “I love coming to NL. How could I not?” said Plaskett. “I’m really excited to get to a lot of places I've never been before and meet some new people. Of all the tours I've had on the calendar this is definitely the one I've been looking forward to the most.” Plaskett has been one of the hardest working musicians on the Canadian music scene since he entered with his then band Thrush Hermit in the mid 90s. Since then he had a brief stint with a band called Neuseiland and following that he has met great success both as a solo artist and with his band Emergency. Scrappy Happiness is the follow-up to Joel’s hugely successful triple record, Three, which garnered overwhelming media response and caught the attention of international audiences. Where Three is a thoughtful solo record that offers up gems that range from pure pop to soul stirring folk, Scrappy Happiness is an epic melodic rock record powered by stellar songs and a sense of urgency. The making of Scrappy Happiness was a unique project. The band recorded, mixed, mastered, and released every single week for ten weeks! It was a huge undertaking, which came together in the release of his eighth recording, Scrappy Happiness, in March of this year. To date, the album has garnered outstanding reviews and Joel Plaskett and the Emergency have been touring steadily since its release. Plaskett and the band shine on stage and create a feel good rapport with audiences from the moment they step on stage. When asked what audiences in NL can expect from the upcoming tour, Plaskett was excited and honest. “We're coming to rock the Rock,” said Plaskett. “We wing it nightly. I have my guitars, my hard-wired rock and roll monkeys, a folk art bust of Wayne Newton and my dancing shoes.” The Joel Plaskett Emergency provincial Arts and Culture Centre tour begins tomorrow, November 2 at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.
