About the Centre


A division of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, the head offices of the Arts and Culture Centres are located in the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre. Committed to excellence and presenting the best to patrons, the Arts and Culture Centres offer a wide variety of programming from the best that Newfoundland has to offer to diverse artists from across Canada and abroad.

The Joseph R Smallwood Arts & Culture Centre was opened in July 1971. The Centre houses a 400 seat proscenium theatre, a 25 metre swimming pool, and art exhibition area. The theatre opened in 1976. If you are looking for pool information please call 256-1062 or 256-1063.
